Most students struggle to achieve good grades not because they lack ability, but because nobody taught them how to actually learn. There’s unlimited information available on the internet — the problem is knowing how to use it.

We teach the fundamentals of how learning works — specifically how to encode information effectively and retrieve it under exam conditions.
We provide strategies on how they should study outside of school for their GCSE and A-level STEM subjects.
Students who develop these study skills begin to see improvements within weeks and go on to achieve exceptional GCSE and A-level results.

Problem solving

Problem solving is the ability to tackle difficult and unfamiliar Maths and Science questions. It's a key skill that top universities look for in STEM applicants, yet most students never properly develop it. As a result, they struggle with admissions tests, interviews, and the hardest questions in exams.

We give students clear roadmaps to improve their problem solving skills in relevant STEM subjects outside of school.
Students develop experience tackling hard questions through group sessions and 1-to-1 classes.
Over time students build the kind of deep problem solving ability that impresses admissions tutors and holds up in interviews.

Meet the Founder

My name is Khalid. I studied Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London. Over the past few years I’ve worked with 100+ students helping them develop the study skills and problem solving skills needed to secure offers at Oxbridge, Imperial and other top STEM universities.

I built AskHours with one goal — to make sure that every student who is serious about studying STEM at a top university has the tools to get there. Too many capable students miss out simply because nobody showed them how. This program exists to change that.

Questions parents ask

Will this work for my child?

This program is designed for motivated students who are capable of strong academic performance but lack a clear system for developing the skills top STEM universities look for. We work with students at different starting points and the framework adapts to where your child is now. As long as your child is willing to engage and work hard, this program will help them to achieve exceptional results.

How is this different from normal tutoring?

Schools and tutoring focus mainly on content and short-term exam performance. We focus on the underlying skills that drive long-term success: study skills, problem-solving and strategic thinking. These are the skills that determine performance in admissions tests, interviews, and high-level STEM courses, yet are rarely taught explicitly elsewhere.

When is the right time to start?

The earlier the better. The deadline for Year 11 & 12 students to join is late December. Starting early allows skills to compound over years, while starting later means sacrifices need to be made and the student needs to work harder outside of school. We help families determine the right time to join during the 15-minute call.

What happens if it’s not a good fit?

The 15-minute call exists to assess fit on both sides. If the program is not right for your child, we will tell you honestly and provide guidance on how to move forward independently. There is no pressure to continue if it does not make sense.

I’m still not sure if I should book this call. What should I do?

I’d still recommend booking the call. One of two things will happen: either you’ll see that the program is a great fit and decide to move forward, or I’ll send you a free 45-minute training video to help your child get started with developing their study skills and problem solving skills. There’s genuinely no downside. The call only takes 10–15 minutes, and at a minimum you’ll come away with clarity and a clear next step to put your child in a stronger position for getting into a STEM course at a top university in the future.
